Director, Natick Soldier Research & Engineering Center (NSRDEC)

As Director, Natick Soldier Research & Engineering Center (NSRDEC) has full responsibility for a total RD&E Program. The Director manages a multi-disciplinary program for the Army and joint services to maximize War fighter's survivability, combat effectiveness, and quality of life in the field under worldwide environmental extremes and hazardous conditions. The Director leads Soldier System integration of a highly diverse set of technologies supporting the development of items in the commodity areas of clothing and individual equipment, combat technologies supporting the development of items in the commodity areas of clothing and individual equipment, combat rations and field feeding equipment, shelters and field services equipment, and personnel and cargo airdrop systems. Plans and accomplish fundamental research where basic data of significance to assigned Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of Army (DA) programs are lacking; establishing new technological and scientific principles and developing new or improved items, systems and subsistence, clothing and textile materials. Serves under the general direction of and receives broad strategic guidance from the Executive Deputy and Commanding General, RDECOM. Performance is reviewed in the broadest terms for technical perceptiveness, managerial competence and senior leadership effectiveness for the results of the total RD&E Program considering effectiveness of operations and effective tie-in of research objectives and activities of the NSRDEC with pertinent military developments and priorities. Oversees a civilian workforce of 810 (40 military); directly supervises three Scientific & Professional & GS-15/14 experts and consultants.
